CMC Dean featured in Hillary Clinton Campaign Video on LGBT Equality!

When I watched Hillary Clinton's historic 2012 speech on LGBT equality at the United Nations, I recognized the speech from a video called "Equal" that was put together by her 2016 presidential campaign. The video uses the audio from her 2012 speech, and illustrates her (current) stance on LGBT issues. In the video, CMC Dean Devon MacIver's wedding ceremony is featured.

Take a look for yourself!

  1. I remember seeing this ad when it came out--and seeing Devon--and being like, "Oh my god, Hillary is so amazing for LGBTQ issues! So much better than Obama!" Especially after reading her recent speech at the United Nations, I was even more impressed. But what HAPPENED? Okay, a lot of things...But why didn't her campaign more fervently support and transmit messages in support of LGBTQ issues and rights? It seems like she had a lot of good messaging at the beginning, like this ad, and a lot of good experience to draw on, like the UN speech, but she largely left these out of her mainstream campaign.

  2. I definitely agree. This question made me think back to our class discussions on the political power of the elite LGBTQ community that often overshadows the needs of LGBTQ people of color, homeless, etc. Did the fact that the Supreme Court ruled same-sex marriage legal in 2015 (the major goal of the LGBTQ community in recent years) lessen the need for Hillary's campaign to use this as a main talking point in her presidential campaign?
