Chauncey is leaving Yale (his alma matar, as well as where he's taught for the past 20+ years) for Columbia since he believes Yale falls way behind its peer institutions in LGBTQ inclusivity. I thought this was super relevant considering the panel today and how we think of CMC within the fabric of university inclusion of the LGBTQ community.
OMG!
ReplyDelete(1) I'm remembering Prof Selig's question at the beginning of the semester about the name of the class, and I'm intrigued by the "LesGay" nickname for the equivalent course at Yale...
(2) I also wonder here about the responsibility of prominent figures such as Chauncey have in the academy. The article points to a mass exodus of queer studies faculty. I appreciate the immense struggle that Chauncey and his peers had all faced due to lack of institutional support, but also think about the Yale students who are now unable to pursue this interest. Do you agree with Chauncey's decision to leave?
